Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not addressed here, please get in touch to discuss your situation.

Ideally, we begin one to two years before applications are due, which gives enough time for orientation, profile building, and thoughtful preparation. That said, meaningful support can be provided at later stages, too — whether a student is building a university list or already preparing to submit applications.

No ethical consultant can guarantee admission.

What we can offer is careful preparation, honest and constructive feedback, and strategic guidance tailored to each student’s strengths and goals. In our experience, a truly balanced university list almost always yields at least one offer of admission, provided it matches the student's academic and extracurricular profile.

No.

Our guidance is completely independent from universities and agencies — we do not receive nor accept fees from any institution or organisation.

School counsellors play an essential role within their institutions, and if you are lucky enough to attend a school that has a counsellor, that is fantastic. Our work complements theirs by providing independent, focused guidance with the time needed for deeper personalised planning and application strategy.

Many of our students come from schools that do not provide college counselling. For them, we provide information on higher education systems, orientation, profile building, and application support — everything we can do outside of a school context.

Yes!  While we are physically based in Budapest, and our in-person consultations take place there, we also work online with students and families across Hungary and internationally. We have had students who live in Sweden or Belgium for example.

There is no fixed number. The appropriate list depends on academic profile, goals, competitiveness, and financial considerations. The aim is a balanced and well-considered selection that contains reach, target and safe destinations — it is about quality, not quantity.

The number we usually aim for is seven, but we have had students apply to only two unis (successfully). We normally do not recommend applying to more than ten universities.

The most effective process is collaborative. Students take ownership of their applications, while parents remain informed and supported. Clear communication helps maintain balance and reduces unnecessary stress.

Where relevant, we help families understand scholarship options and financial implications within different systems, ensuring decisions remain both ambitious and realistic.

Depending on the student’s needs, collaboration may include

  • academic and/or career orientation,
  • skill mapping and building,
  • academic profile building (advice on super-curricular activities),
  • university research,
  • application strategy,
  • essay development,
  • interview preparation,
  • and ongoing reflection throughout the process.

We provide decision support as well if required.

There will be tasks for students to complete on their own to aid these processes.

Students who are open to reflection, willing to engage thoughtfully, and who are ready to take responsibility for their development tend to benefit most from this approach.
